Apple is preparing for a significant overhaul of its Mac lineup with the introduction of the M4 chip family. According to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, there's a "strong possibility" that the upcoming iPad Pro will be powered by the M4 chip instead of the M3, boasting enhanced AI capabilities.

Gurman suggests that Apple may position the new iPad Pro as its inaugural AI-driven device, aligning with the prevailing trend in the tech industry. The timing of the iPad Pro's anticipated release just before the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June enables Apple to spotlight its AI chip strategy without distraction.

During WWDC, the focus is likely to shift towards showcasing how the M4 chip and the new iPad Pro will harness AI software and services within the upcoming iPadOS 18, slated for release later this year.

Gurman also foresees the A18 chip in the iPhone 16 lineup being marketed as AI-centric. Alongside the chip upgrade, notable enhancements include an OLED display, a relocated FaceTime camera, and redesigned Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil accessories.

Gurman proposes the introduction of a new Apple Pencil featuring haptic feedback, speculating that it may integrate a Taptic Engine to provide tactile responses during use, potentially including the rumored "squeeze" gesture.

Furthermore, Apple is expected to unveil a 12.9-inch iPad Air and a redesigned Magic Keyboard alongside these updates.

However, Gurman notes that while these products will be promoted as AI-powered, their development isn't solely centered on AI. Some of the excitement stems from marketing initiatives, and more advanced capabilities are still in progress.

Additional insights into Apple's AI strategy are anticipated at WWDC in June, coinciding with previews of major software updates. The Apple 'Let Loose' iPad event will be help on May 7, 2024.
