Its a software framework for medical research which will turn those HealthKit bearing iPhones into "powerful tools for diagnosis." Now, apple has partnered with several hospitals and medical professionals who have helped design apps with ResearchKit framework to diagnose conditions ranging from Parkinson's to breast cancer.

For example, for a diagnosis on Parkinson's the app will use the iPhone's sensors to check irregularities in your speech or walk. Moreover, you will be able to control how much and what data is accessible, so a lot of privacy is built in and Apple does not have access to your medical data.
