With the Samsung Galaxy S7/Galaxy S7 Edge already available in the market for the better part of the last 2 months, LG G5 has taken a long time to come to India.
Although the LG G5 has been available for pre-order from May 21st for Rs. 52990 on Flipkart, but given the great reviews of the new Galaxy S7 line-up, many people have already made-up their mind on which flagship to buy. Moreover, LG is selling the G5 in India at a premium over the GS7 which wouldn't sit well with prospective buyers. But you do get a free additional battery and chargijg cradle as well.
But if we look at LG's side, there is a lot of innovation here. The LG G5 is the first commercially available modular smartphone with a removable battery in an all-metal unibody casing. The bottom part of the LG G5 can be removed to access the MicroSD card slot and the battery. You can change this part with the CAM PLUS or a B&O DAC module, which you can read about here.
Then there's a neat dual camera setup at the back, one 16MP camera for normal shooting along with an 8MP 135-degree wide-angle camera to capture more details and area of a scene. The wide-angle lens comes in real handy when you have to shoot a large building, your surroundings without the need to jump into panorama mode. Then you also have LG's excellent manual mode built-in for complete control over the cameras.
In terms of specs too the LG G5 is no slouch, its running on the Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor with 4GB RAM, 5.3-inch Quad-HD display and Android Marshmallow. It has a fingerprint sensor at the back just below the dual-camera module which also doubles up as the power button. It has a 2800 mAh battery which may seem less for a flagship but then LG had to make room for the modular magic to happen. Fear not, you have Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support over the USB Type-C port on the device.
That's all good, but the LG G5 seems more like an experiment/prototype of sorts. Apart from the aforementioned two modules nothing has materialized since the launch of the phone way back in February at MWC 2016 and the company has been rather reluctant to disclose the pricing of these modules. In India you will get the CAM Plus module free with the LG G5, if you had pre-ordered it in the last week.
Anyways, the LG G5 is sure to win a few hearts with its design and good cameras. But just like Sony, LG too needs to have a closer look at its pricing.
