Going forward, all Moto smartphones to launch in 2016 will have a fingerprint sensor. It was confirmed by Chen Xudong, SVP Lenovo and president of Lenovo China & Asia Pacific. Fingerprint sensors have become a common feature on flagship devices, but Motorola has refrained from using them, even though they were the first to use a fingerprint sensor on their Atrix 4G smartphone back in 2011.

Chen also announced the roadmap for future Moto and Lenovo smartphones. He said that in 2016 and beyond, the company won't be launching any devices with screen size less than 5-inch.

You may have heard that Lenovo will be phasing out the Motorola brand name, it is true to an extent. Motorola Mobility will continue to exist within the Lenovo Mobile group, however going forward we will see a lot less Motorola branding on boxes as well as the smartphones themselves. Lenovo will continue its dual-brand strategy in 2016 as well, with two distinguishable lines, Moto and Vibe.

Motorola Lenovo Logo

Motorola Mobility was recently given a pivotal role within the Lenovo Mobile Business Group with additional responsibilities of design and engineering. So, the great user experience as well as solid hardware construction we are used to from the company will continue to remain and also influence the Vibe series of smartphones.

Lenovo isn't a huge name in the smartphone business outside China and India, therefore by phasing out the Motorola brand name and using its own, would help the company gain more traction and acceptance in the highly competitive US and European markets.

Its not so much as "Goodbye Motorola", as people have made it out to be. The DNA of the company still remains within the confines of the Lenovo MBG and infact they are the ones who will be running the show moving forward. Motorola has just found a permanent home under Lenovo with ample resources to try out every weird experiment with design, technology and usability to give us something exciting, new, something we would line-up to get.
