Google also announced Project Brillo, a slim OS for the internet-of-things which refers to smart devices in your household like door locks, smart switches and connected devices. Sundar Pichai, SVP Google, said, that its Android, Chrome and Nest team all together worked on Project Brillo to create this streamlined version of Android with minimal system requirements, WiFi and Bluetooth LE support.

Google has also come up with a new common language for all Brillo devices, WEAVE, using which all these devices can interact with each other and understand each others functionality, essentially a completely connected home. Say, you are going out and use an app on your Android smartphone to lock the doors in the house. The smart door lock would prompt the smart switches in the house to turn of the TV, Lights, AC if they were running.

Brillo will go into a developer preview in Q3 while WEAVE will be official sometime in Q4 2015. Google's acquisition of Nest is bearing fruit, and a dream of a connected home may be in offing in the very near future.
