Samsung reveals KitKat update plans, rollout begins today

Samsung has formally announced its plans for Android KitKat update for its smartphones and tablets in the US. There are more than 15 phones and tabs getting the KitKat treatment in the coming months.


Here's a list of the Samsung Galaxy phones which will get Android KitKat:

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 3
  • Samsung Galaxy Note II
  • Samsung Galaxy S4
  • Samsung Galaxy S4 mini
  • Samsung Galaxy S4 Active
  • Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom
  • Samsung Galaxy S III
  • Samsung Galaxy S III mini
  • Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3
  • Samsung Galaxy Light

The list is in no particular order and there is no particular timeline as to when the update will be available but Samsung has said that the rollout would start today. Now, here's the list for the Galaxy Tab's that will get the new Android flavor:

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1

The update to the Galaxy devices will add the new core, UI enhancements, better performance and security alongwith the Location settings menu. Magazine UX may also make  an appearance on the tablets but Samsung hasn't promised that. The entire process will take a few months to complete.
