After weeks of leaks, it has finally arrived. The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium packing a 4K display was announced just a while back at IFA 2015. The display diagonal measures in at 5.5-inches and with a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels it has a whopping pixel-density of 806 PPI. It doesn't seem that displays can get sharper than this. Sony has also packed in its X-Reality engine to keep the display running smooth.
Coming to the rest of the specs, the Xperia Z5 Premium runs on the Snapdragon 810 chipset with 3GB RAM, 32GB inbuilt storage which is expandable upto 200 GB with a microSD card. The camera department has also been overhauled with a 23MP rear unit packing a 1/2.3 Exmor RS sensor, f/2.0 G-Lens. The new camera module according to Sony can get its focus in just 0.03 seconds, we might need a new expression for in the blink of an eye.
There's a fingerprint sensor which has been embedded within the power button on the right of the device. Since it is a Sony device, it won't be complete without the necessary IPX5/IPX8 rating, meaning it is both dust and water resistant. The Xperia Z5 Premium also boasts of high-fidelity audio codec support. Since 4K content is not that readily available, Sony has built-in an "upscale to 4K" feature with the Z5 Premium which will scale NexFlix, YouTube and even your personal videos to 4K.
The new Z5 series will run on Android 5.1 Lollipop right out of the box, with a touch of Xperia UI on top. Juicing the Z5 Premium is a 3430mAh battery, which seems a bit inadequate to run the 4K display. But this is the first time a 4K display has made it to a consumer device, so we'll have to see what Sony has done with the power management. But atleast Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 support is baked in.
The Xperia Z5 Premium comes in Chrome, Black and Gold color options, going on sale in November in both dual and Single-SIM options.
