It seems even Sony too wasn't to savvy about its current flagship, the Xperia Z3+. A rumor has begun circulating that Sony will launch another flagship, the Xperia Z5 in September running on the quad-core Snapdragon 820 based on Qualcomm's own Kryo cores instead of stock ARM cores.
The Xperia Z5 is expected to feature a 5.2-inch Quad-HD panel, 21MP Sony IMX230 CMOS sensor, a massive 4500 mAh battery (which does sound a bit suspect). According to the report, Sony is also planning to launch the Xperia Z5 compact and Xperia Z5 Ultra, both of which will probably only differ in display size/resolution and battery capacity. Come to think of it, the 4500 mAh battery doesn't sound that outlandish for the Ultra variant.
A fingerprint scanner is also being rumored, but as these things go, take them with a pinch of salt.
Qualcomm has been under fire from the media and probably manufacturers as well due to its faulty Snapdragon 810 SoC which has a very poor thermal make-up. Qualcomm might blame the use of stock ARM cores which they weren't able to optimize for heat dissipation, nevertheless its more of a chipset design issue since Samsung is doing quite well with the same combination found in its Exynos 7420. The Snapdragon 820 will be build on the same 14nm process as the Exynos 7420 and that too by Samsung, atleast that's what the rumors suggest.
