Xiaomi Mi5 Leaked Image 1

A couple of alleged images of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi5 smartphone have surfaced online. The images were uploaded by a Weibo user and have since then been taken down. If this is indeed the Xiaomi Mi5, well, it looks quite ugly.

You can see the huge bezels above and below the display, then there's the home button which makes it look more like a Samsung smartphone. It seems now instead of taking design cues from Apple, now Xiaomi is relying on Samsung to do most of the work.

The device does appear to be thin and will probably be an all-metal unibody affair with a non-removable battery, but given what we see now of the Xiaomi Mi5, its really not that impressive. But then again, we would reserve judgement till an actual announcement.

Xiaomi Mi 5 Leak 2

The Xiaomi Mi5 will be announced on January 21 and is expected to go on sale in China starting February 8th. Confirmed specifications say that the Mi 5 will run on the Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor with either 3/4 GB of RAM. There is also talk of a 5.2-inch Quad-HD display, 16/13 MP cameras and a large 3600 mAh battery with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.

The oft rumored smartphone from Xiaomi has been delayed for quite some time, but now the date is set and even though the company has completely overlooked India in 2015, we expect better this time around.
