If you have been following the news, you might be aware that Xiaomi's Mi 4i heat-ups with intensive tasks and sometimes in general use as well. We saw temperatures rise to over 50°C in a matter of minutes in performance mode. Xiaomi's previous update was supposed to fix the issue, but all it did was throttle the CPU/GPU as soon as temperatures rose. We still saw temperatures hover around the 48°C mark. You can watch our Gaming review where we checked temperatures every few minutes.

But here we are with another update, 804 MB in size, MIUI v6.5.4.0 LXIMICD, which optimizes the thermal control algorithms to fix the issue. Jai Mani, Product Manager at Xiaomi said that they are aware of the heating issues with the Mi 4i and this time around the fix with help "adjust frequency, voltage and the number of cores in use" based on the temperature of the chipset.

Out unit hasn't got the update yet, but we will inform you if this fixes issues with the device. Stay tuned for updates on this front.

Snapdragon 615 is known to over-heat, and the 2nd-gen chipset used on the Xiaomi Mi 4i is no exception. Although, Xiaomi is working to fix issues through software and that's a great start. The Mi 4i is currently available in India, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.
