Happy news for Redmi 1S users, Xiaomi Global today announced the release of beta build of MIUI 6 based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat for the Redmi 1S. Updates to the MIUI build, now available for download from MIUI forums will be updated every 2 weeks keeping in mind user feedback gathered during the time.
Although this is not a completely bug-free build, you can still install it on your Redmi 1S by following the instructions here. Known issues with the build include difficulty connecting to network after a reboot, and sudden battery-drop after a reboot.
The Redmi 1S was launched last year with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean running on it alongwith MIUI 5 on top featuring a 4.7-inch HD display, quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor with 1 GB RAM. We reviewed it then and found it a bit underwhelming in the performance department mainly due to poor RAM management, frequent app crashes and so on.
Xiaomi also recently launched the updated Redmi 2 which features all upgraded internals, running on MIUI 6 based on Android 4.4 KitKat. You can watch its review above.
