Apple has launched its latest headphones in the Max series, the Apple AirPods Max 2 in the global market, including India, as a successor to its original AirPods Max over-ear headphones launched in 2020. The updated model is powered by the new H2 chip, delivering enhanced Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), upgraded audio components, and several new software capabilities that were not available on the first-generation version.
Hardware and Audio Enhancements -
With the integration of the H2 chip, the AirPods Max 2 introduces multiple hardware-based improvements:
- Improved Noise Cancellation - Thanks to advanced computational audio algorithms, Apple claims the ANC is up to 1.5 times more effective than before, helping to minimize background sounds in environments such as flights and public transport.
- Refined Audio Performance - A new high-dynamic-range amplifier ensures clearer sound output. Transparency mode has also been enhanced with updated digital signal processing for more natural ambient sound passthrough.
- Lossless Audio Capability - Using the bundled USB-C cable, the headphones support 24-bit/48kHz lossless audio. This wired mode also enables musicians and creators to mix tracks with Personalized Spatial Audio and head tracking.
- Lower Latency - Reduced wireless latency enhances responsiveness, especially when paired with Game Mode on iOS, macOS, and iPadOS devices.
Smart Software Features -
The H2 chip also enables a range of intelligent and automated features:
- Adaptive Audio - Automatically balances ANC and Transparency modes based on the surrounding environment.
- Conversation Awareness - Detects when the user begins speaking and lowers media volume while reducing background noise.
- Voice Isolation - Focuses on the user’s voice during calls, suppressing ambient sounds.
- Live Translation - Powered by Apple Intelligence, this feature supports real-time translation of in-person conversations across languages.
- Siri Controls - Users can respond to Siri prompts by nodding “yes” or shaking their head “no.”
- Creator-Focused Tools - The Digital Crown can function as a remote shutter for photos or video recording. Enhanced audio recording features are also included for podcasters and content creators.
- Hearing Protection - Loud Sound Reduction helps limit exposure to harsh environmental noise, while Personalized Volume adapts over time to optimize listening levels.
Pricing and Availability -
The AirPods Max 2 is priced at Rs. 67,900 in India (USD 549 in the US). It will be available for pre-order in more than 30 countries, including India, starting Wednesday, March 25, via apple.com/store and the Apple Store app. Deliveries and in-store availability at Apple retail locations will begin early next month.
