Huawei today launched the Mate 9 in Germany, but there was another phone lurking in the background. To everyone's surprise, Huawei partnered with another German company to make bring the Mate 9 Porsche Design edition which will be sold in limited quantities.

The design is quite different from the Mate 9, starting with the 5.5-inch Quad-HD AMOLED display up front which curves to the sides for a better screen to body ratio as well as smoother touch response. Given that Porsche Design is the german automobile manufacturer's fashion wing, you can see elements of design here inspired from cars including the curved display which meets the flat metal frame half way. An amalgamation of hard and soft lines.

The back of the phone has the Porsche Design logo and the second-gen Leica dual-lens setup, same as the Mate 9. So, you have a 12MP RGB sensor along with a 20MP monochrome sensor which somehow enables 2X magnification without loss. You also have 4-in-1 hybrid autofocusing system which combines laser, phase-detect, depth and contrast to give you the perfect shot.

Powering the Mate 9 Porsche Edition is the company's flagship Kirin 960 octa-core SoC with Android 7.0 taking care of daily chores. You have feature-rich EMUI 5.0 skin on top which has received a makeover with the option to go for an app drawer instead of just rows of icons on the home screen.

It is a dual-SIM 4G VoLTE capable smartphone as well with a hybrid slot to expand that massive 256GB storage. Then you also have 6GB RAM onboard for effortless multitasking. All this is powered by a 4000 mAh battery with support for SuperCharge fast charging with the bundled 5A charger.

The Porsche Design Mate 9 will be available in very limited quantities priced at EUR 1395 (Rs. 1,03,000 / $1543) through European Porsche Stores in late December and will be rolling out to other regions via both Porsche Design and Huawei stores in January.
