Karbonn A12 Star is one of the cheapest dual-core 3G smartphones available in the market running Android 4.4 KitKat. It comes with a 4-inch WVGA display, 1.2 GHz dual-core MediaTek MT6572 SoC with 512 MB RAM. KitKat has been optimized for the lower-end devices, and therefore we might see some performance improvement in gameplay. We'll definitely find out in our Gaming Review.
Gaming Review
We played Asphalt 8, FIFA 14, NOVA 3, MC4, GT Racing 2 as well as Frontline Commando: D-day, Riptide GP2, Subway Surfers and Temple Run 2 on the Karbonn A12 Star. All these games were installed at the same time as app as well as app-data are movable to the external SD card. Considering that the A12 Star is available for just Rs. 4099 its remarkable that we were able to play even high-end games.
Although gameplay was a bit laggy in some of the high-end games with the occasional framedrop, we were able to play most of these games at acceptable framerates. The A12 Star doesn't get hot while playing games which is a bonus, but the speakerphone volume could have been a little louder. The display provides good touch response and wide viewing angles, which makes gameplay better.
Conclusion
The Karbonn A12 Star is not a gaming smartphone but it can definitely play games, some even better than much costlier alternatives. The display is a pleasure to see and use while the speakerphone could have been louder. Apart from that the A12 Star gives a decent gameplay performance especially when you factor in the price of just Rs. 4099.
