MediaTek has launched its latest mid-range 5G processor the Dimensity 1080 with TSMC’s 6nm process technology. It has an octa-core CPU with Arm Cortex-A78 cores operating at up to 2.6GHz and four Arm Cortex-A55 efficiency cores clocked at 2GHz, the same Dimensity 1100 that was introduced last year.
The company says that this is the successor to the Dimensity 920 that was introduced a year back since it retains almost similar specifications as the chip including the ARM Mali-G68 MC4 GPU. It has HyperEngine 3.0 gaming enhancements for speedy performance and seamless connectivity, along with the chipset’s integrated AI processing unit 3.0 (APU 3.0) for optimal power efficiency.
The chip has up to 200MP camera support, compared to 108MP in the predecessor, and has support for sub-6GHz 5G networks and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.
