OnePlus and BOE have officially unveiled their jointly developed fourth-generation Oriental Screen at a dedicated technology communication event. The latest display introduces new luminescent materials, higher refresh-rate capabilities, and an upgraded display-processing system. It is set to debut with the upcoming OnePlus 16.

Material Enhancements and Precision Calibration

The fourth-generation Oriental Screen adopts custom X4 luminescent material, designed to deliver improved color accuracy, higher peak brightness, better power efficiency, and extended panel longevity. According to Li Jie, President of OnePlus China, the display is manufactured using an upgraded proprietary production line for display technology, which the company describes as the only one of its kind in China.

As part of the manufacturing process, every sub-pixel undergoes three rounds of hardware calibration to meet the company's “S-level pixel index” standards. The panel also supports genuine hardware-level brightness output as low as 1 nit, helping reduce eye strain when using the device in dark surroundings.

165Hz Refresh Rate for Everyday Use, Up to 185Hz for Gaming

A major highlight of the new display is its enhanced refresh rate performance across the hardware system. Powered by a redesigned LTPO circuit architecture and the new X4 material, the panel supports a system-wide refresh rate of 165Hz for everyday tasks, including app navigation and scrolling. In supported gaming scenarios, the refresh rate can reach up to 185Hz.

OnePlus claims that the display maintains power consumption at 165Hz at a level comparable to the previous generation's 120Hz operation. The updated architecture is also designed to minimize latency, manage heat generation, and reduce frame drops while preserving consistent color reproduction.

Advanced Display Processing and OnePlus 16 Debut

The fourth-generation Oriental Screen incorporates the company's proprietary “Ultra-Dynamic Clarity Technology,” which aims to improve motion clarity during fast-moving content. It is complemented by the custom P4 display processor, an upgraded “Bright Eyes Protection” eye-care system, and enhanced outdoor visibility technology designed to improve readability under strong ambient lighting.

The new display will make its commercial debut with the OnePlus 16. The upcoming flagship is also expected to feature symmetrical ultra-narrow bezels measuring just 1.15mm on all four sides. The OnePlus 16 is scheduled to launch officially on October 12.
