Qualcomm has officially launched its newest premium mobile platform lineup, comprising the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 Mobile Platform (SM8975) and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Mobile Platform (SM8950).
Both SoCs are built using a 2nm process and are designed to power the next generation of flagship Android smartphones from leading global OEMs.
Core Architecture and Performance
The two platforms share a common architecture based on Qualcomm’s custom 64-bit Oryon CPU, an upgraded Adreno GPU, and a redesigned Hexagon NPU.
Both processors feature two Prime Oryon cores clocked at up to 5.0GHz and six Performance cores reaching up to 4.0GHz, along with 16MB of Qualcomm Oryon Flex Cache. The platforms support up to 24GB of LPDDR5x/6 memory running at up to 5,300MHz and are compatible with UFS 5.0 storage.

Compared with the previous-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Qualcomm claims the following improvements:
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6: CPU performance improves by 10%, while CPU power efficiency increases by 37%. GPU performance is up by 35%, accompanied by a 40% reduction in power consumption. The NPU delivers a 14% performance increase, while AI performance-per-watt improves by 20%.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6: CPU performance rises by 13%, with CPU power efficiency improving by 37%. GPU performance receives a 44% boost along with a 40% improvement in power efficiency. The NPU delivers 35% higher performance and a 33% increase in AI performance-per-watt, supported by 50% more shared memory.
On-Device AI and Gaming
Both platforms feature an enhanced Qualcomm AI Engine aimed at supporting agentic and proactive AI experiences. The low-power Qualcomm Sensing Hub incorporates dual Micro NPUs and dual Always-Sensing ISPs, allowing on-device assistants to continuously process contextual information and coordinate tasks across multiple applications without requiring constant user input.
The architecture supports precision formats ranging from INT2 to FP16 and includes a new Element Accelerator for additional AI processing capabilities.
For gaming and graphics, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 introduces Qualcomm Adreno Neural Fusion, which employs dedicated Adreno matrix cores to handle selected rendering workloads and improve frame delivery. The chipset also features an 18MB Adreno High-Performance Memory architecture that can reduce power consumption by up to 12%.
Both platforms support Unreal Engine 5 technologies such as Lumen Global Illumination, Nanite Virtualized Geometry, and real-time hardware-accelerated ray tracing. The Extreme variant additionally supports MegaLights. Display support extends to internal panels with resolutions up to 4K+ at 120Hz or QHD+ at 240Hz.
Imaging and Multimedia
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 integrate the Qualcomm Spectra ISP with triple 20-bit AI-ISPs. The imaging architecture supports individual camera sensors of up to 320MP, or up to 108MP with Zero Shutter Lag, as well as triple-camera configurations of up to 64MP.
The camera pipeline includes Intelligent Pixel Control, real-time 3D-LUT color mapping through the Elite Color Engine, and motion intelligence stabilization for improved image and video capture.
Video capabilities differ between the two platforms. The standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 supports 8K video recording at 30fps and 4K slow-motion capture at 120fps. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 increases 8K recording support to 60fps, enables 4K super slow-motion recording at up to 240fps, and adds hardware support for the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec.
Audio processing is handled by the Snapdragon Sound Technology Suite on both platforms. Features include AI Voice Bubble for isolating background noise, AI-based audio separation after recording, and low-latency spatial audio with head tracking.
Connectivity and Wireless Standards
Connectivity is provided by the Qualcomm X105 5G Modem-RF System and FastConnect 8800 Mobile Connectivity System.
The X105 modem is designed for 3GPP Release 19 and supports 5G Advanced across both mmWave and sub-6GHz bands. It offers peak download speeds of up to 14.8Gbps and upload speeds of up to 4.2Gbps. The modem uses a 6-antenna (6Rx) configuration and features a 6nm transceiver that consumes 30% less power. It also includes integrated Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) support for NB-NTN and NR-NTN satellite communications.
The FastConnect 8800 system introduces a 4×4 Wi-Fi architecture with support for Wi-Fi 8 (802.11bn), as well as Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6. It offers theoretical peak speeds of up to 11.6Gbps. Additional wireless technologies include Bluetooth 6.0 with High Data Throughput (HDT), Channel Sounding, Ultra-Wideband (UWB), and Thread 1.4.
