The calculus is relatively simple: If you're on Verizon and want a smartphone (and aren't stuck with BlackBerrys), the Incredible is pretty much the one you should buy. With Palm's future unclear, and its app ecosystem shaky, it's hard to recommend the Pre, even though its software is generally more usable than Android. And the Droid's single redeeming feature over this, a physical keyboard, is actually less usable than the custom keyboard HTC's put on the Incredible. The Nexus One for Verizon looms, but the only reasons it could be considered superior—it feels better built and more expensive, and the promise of timely updates from Google—are mitigated by the fact the Incredible is here now, and HTC's Sense does glossy up some of Android's rough spots. HTC Droid Incredible Review at CNET

Out of everything, though, the one aspect of the Droid Incredible that absolutely knocked our socks off is general performance. The smartphone is armed with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 512MB ROM and 512MB RAM and the Droid Incredible was one of the most responsive and fastest Android devices; heck, one of the fastest smartphones in general, that we've tested to date. The handset handled every task we threw at it without stumbling, and even with six open apps open, the Incredible never slowed down.

The smartphone comes with a 1,300mAh lithium ion battery with a rated talk time of 5.2 hours. In our battery drain tests the Droid Incredible provided 5.5 hours of continuous talk time on a single charge. In real-life usage, the smartphone was able to last just over day on a single charge with moderate use. According to FCC radiation tests, the Droid Incredible has a digital SAR rating of 1.4 watts per kilogram and a Hearing Aid Compatibility rating of M4/T3. Read more...

The phone’s name might be a tad pretentious but we’ll be damned if it doesn’t live up to it. If you’re a Verizon customer looking to upgrade to Android, this is one of the finest phones available on that network we’ve yet seen.

WIRED: Tiny, yet mighty. Faster than a locomotive with the help of 8-GB flash memory, 512 MB of RAM and Snapdragon processor. Gorgeous color display. We’re blown away by the phone’s smudge-resisting skills.

TIRED: Camera lens isn’t flush to the back of the phone; it could easily be scratched by a set of keys. Sunlight is this phone’s kryptonite. Read more...

HTC Droid Incredible Review at Engadget

Let's just put this out there: the Droid Incredible is the best Android device that you can purchase in America right now. It's better than the Droid, better than the Nexus One, and certainly beats the pants off of any previous generation handsets like the Eris, myTouch, or Cliq. It's not just a very, very good Android phone (though it is); it's also an excellent smartphone no matter how you cut it. If you're on Verizon right now, you're finally getting really great options for phones, but the Incredible is currently sitting at the top of that heap with a good bit of distance to the next in line. Sure, there are still issues like a lack of quality titles in the Android Market, and if a hardware keyboard is a must, this won't do the job for you. Also, while Sense is truly great on this phone, there may be users who prefer a more streamlined, stripped down experience. Still, if you're looking for an ultra-fast, extremely capable smartphone that has the guts and gleam to go the distance, the Incredible just might be the Droid you're looking for. HTC Droid Incredible Review at PCMag

The Incredible is the best smartphone on Verizon, and the second-best smartphone in America; it would outpace the iPhone if it weren't for all of those great iPhone apps. The Incredible renders the upcoming Nexus One for Verizon's network totally irrelevant, although it may yet be outmatched by Sprint's upcoming, WiMAX-based Evo 4G.

That said, there's still a reason to get a different Verizon smartphone if you want or need a hardware keyboard. In that case, the Motorola Droid beckons, and it's still an excellent phone. If you're really all about messaging, and you want a great hardware keyboard but don't care that much about apps, the BlackBerry Tour is for you. The HTC Droid Incredible is one of our favorite Android handsets to date. With the latest version of Android and an updated Sense UI, the user experience is great. Hardware-wise, the device feels well built and the camera is excellent for a smart phone. Add to that the 1-GHz Snapdragon processor and plenty of memory and you have a device that easily rivals the Droid and the Nexus One. While the Droid can be purchased for $99 at Best Buy--half the price of the Incredible--the question you should ask is, How badly do I want a physical keyboard? While we had some issues with call quality, the Incredible's performance never gave us issues of any kind. Even though Android as an operating system and the handsets that support it evolve rapidly, we don't see the Incredible becoming outdated any time soon. If your contract is expiring this summer, it may be worth waiting for the HTC Evo 4G on Sprint--which has a larger display, 720p recording, WiMax, and mobile hotspot abilities--but for now, the Incredible is one of the best smart phones on the market. The Incredible is, well, pretty damn Incredible. The Incredible’s feature-set is one of the most impressive of any smartphone currently available today. You get high-end hardware packed into a slim and sexy package – and the hardware works well, without lag or any major snafus. The styling of the handset (the battery cover comes to mind) may not appeal to everyone, but we’d guess that most people will find it attractive enough to compete with the iPhone and the Nexus One.
