Htc One M9 Launched

HTC has just launched the One M9 here at MWC 2015 in Barcelona. The insides are all new but there is very little change in the front making it almost similar to look at as the One M8. Let's dive deeper into what the HTC One M9 has to offer.

HTC One M9 vs HTC One M8

Build

HTC continues with its all-metal build with the One M9 as well, but there are several changes that can be found here. The HTC One M9 is smaller and lighter than the One M8, moreover the curve at the back is less pronounced as well. Coming to the sides, they have been raised a bit as well to make the phone easier to grip and to aid single-handed use, there is a less slippery coating on the entire metal surface. Brushed aluminium still finds its way on the entire device.

The power button has been moved to the right just below the power button, but it seems set a bit lower that it should have been. HTC should have got rid of the band just below the display but that was not the case. The 5-inch 1080p display is flanked by stereo BoomSound speakers which are now better, according to HTC with the integration of Dolby processing.

The One M9 is neither dust-proof nor is it water resistant but there will be IP69 certified cases for it. There will be several options available to buy the One M9 including Silver with Rose Gold accent, Gun Metal Grey, full Gold variant and Pink with Gold accent.

Hardware

The HTC One M9 packs the same 5-inch 1080p Super LCD3 display as the One M8 which is not such a bad thing, especially considering the toll Quad-HD displays take on battery life with very little to no advantage.

Under the hood, the HTC One M9 is powered by the latest Snapdragon 810 SoC from Qualcomm with an octa-core processor comprised of four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz. Adreno 430 takes care of graphics with 3 GB RAM. There's 32 GB storage onboard which is expandable with a microSD card slot. You have a 2,840 mAh non user-replaceable battery with support for Fast Charging.

Connectivity options aren't limited either, there's support for 4G LTE, TV-out, GPS with GLONASS support, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and Wi-Fi ac.

Camera

HTC has finally given up on the UltraPixel camera at-least for the main unit. The 4 MP UltraPixel has now been moved to the front as the selfie camera while the back is now adorned with a 20 MP camera from Toshiba. There's a dual-tone LED flash at the back alongwith the new camera. Gone is the depth sensing duo-camera setup found on the One M8.  The new camera captures images in a weird 10:7 aspect ratio but does support RAW image capture and 4K video recording. The rear camera is protected by Sapphire glass and does protrude a little bit from the back.

There is no Optical Image Stabilization and HTC has bundled in several new features in the new camera app for Sense 7.

Everything Else

The HTC One M9 now runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with Sense UI 7.0. HTC BlinkFeed still retains its importance on Sense and gets to meet your lockscreen as well.

In Sense UI 7, a theme engine has also been incorporate which will change UI colors, wallpaper, ringtones and even the keyboard. You will be able to create themes on your own with the help of the theme generator which supports creating automatic themes based on an image chosen by you.

HTC has not yet said anything about the pricing of the One M9, but according to our sources it will be priced around $700 for the 32 GB unlocked and SIM-free variant. However, HTC One M9 will be available later in March.
