Realme 16 pro lumacolor image technology teaser.

Realme has officially introduced its new proprietary imaging technology, LumaColor IMAGE, which will make its global debut with the upcoming realme 16 Pro Series smartphones. The company also announced a partnership with TÜV Rheinland to establish a specialized testing facility for this technology.

Collaboration with TÜV Rheinland -

To advance development, realme and TÜV Rheinland have set up the LumaColor IMAGE LAB, a facility dedicated to testing and calibrating color performance under various real-world lighting conditions.

The lab simulates environments such as dim restaurants, warm-lit cafés, and scenes with high saturation or mixed lighting. Insights gathered from these scenarios help refine the LumaColor processing system to deliver more stable and accurate color output.

Focus on Portrait Photography -

LumaColor IMAGE is primarily designed to elevate portrait photography. According to realme, the technology enhances the interaction between lighting and color to mitigate issues like overexposure and inaccurate color rendering.

Key enhancements include -

  • Skin Tone Optimization: A “full-dimensional skin tone optimization” system aimed at producing accurate and inclusive complexion tones.
  • Depth and Lighting: Optical depth-of-field fusion blur and light/shadow reconstruction work together to improve subject separation and enrich texture.

Availability -

LumaColor IMAGE will debut on the realme 16 Pro Series. Although a specific launch date hasn’t been confirmed, the series is expected to arrive in early January 2026.
