Xiaomi it seems is ready to take the thunder from Motorola by launching its ultra-affordable Redmi 2 in India on March 12th. As we all know Motorola has an event scheduled for March 10th to launch the new 2015 Moto E (2nd Generation.)

So what tipped us to the launch. Well, Xiaomi is running a contest on its Facebook fanpage which features a word puzzle. Participants who are able to find three key features of the device launching on March 12 will get free Priority passes to buy the device from Flipkart.

Xiaomi Redmi 2 Specs and Photos

The guessed words include "Snapdragon", "QuickCharge" and "Expandable" hinting at the Redmi 2 since the new Mi Notes don't have expandable memory. Another possibility can be the Mi Pad since some users were also able to see "Nvidia", "Kepler" and "Tegra" in addition to above words in the puzzle. But we are more inclined to believe that Xiaomi wants to rain on Moto E's parade with the Redmi 2.

Xiaomi Redmi 1S vs Xiaomi Redmi 2

The Redmi 2 upgrades everything from the Redmi 1S including the SoC, which is now the quad-core Snapdragon 410 with 4G LTE support, 2 MP front camera instead of 1.6 MP and also a slightly larger 2200 mAh battery keeping the same display size and resolution of 4.7-inch 720p. It also supports Qualcomm's QuickCharge 1.0 for faster charging, hence the conclusion above. The Redmi 2 is thinner at 9.2 mm (9.9mm for Redm 1S) and lighter at 134 g (158 g for Redmi 1S.)

Overall if priced the same at about Rs. 6999, the Redmi 2 will definitely take away a huge chunk of the sales from the 2nd-Gen 3G Moto E. Especially if Motorola is not planning to launch the 4G LTE Moto E 2015 in India anytime soon and afford-ably priced, if I may add.
