Apple has launched its latest iPad Air (8th Gen) in the Global Market, including India, succeeding last year’s M3-powered model. The lineup continues to offer both 11-inch and 13-inch variants with Liquid Retina displays and an integrated Touch ID sensor embedded in the top button. The major upgrade this year is the shift from the Apple M3 chip to the more powerful Apple M4 processor.

Performance and Hardware Upgrades -

The move to the M4 chip brings significant improvements across CPU, GPU, memory, and AI processing:

CPU and GPU - The M4 features an 8-core CPU and a 9-core GPU. Apple claims performance gains of up to 30% compared to the M3 iPad Air and up to 2.3x faster performance over the M1 version.
Memory - Unified memory has been increased by 50% to 12GB, with memory bandwidth reaching 120GB/s. This enhancement is aimed at improving multitasking and enabling faster on-device AI model execution.
Graphics - The upgraded 9-core GPU supports second-generation hardware-accelerated mesh shading and ray tracing, resulting in quicker and more efficient 3D rendering.
Neural Engine - A 16-core Neural Engine powers AI tasks, delivering up to three times faster performance than the Neural Engine in the M1 model.

The new iPad Air also introduces Apple’s latest in-house networking hardware:

N1 Wireless Chip - Designed by Apple, this chip enables Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity. It enhances 5GHz network speeds and improves the reliability of features like AirDrop and Personal Hotspot.
C1X Cellular Modem - Exclusive to cellular variants, this modem supports 5G and eSIM. Apple says it offers up to 50% faster data speeds while using up to 30% less power than the modem in the previous M3 model. It also integrates GPS support.

Additional Features -

Camera and Audio - The device includes a 12MP front-facing camera with Center Stage, now positioned along the landscape edge for a more natural video calling experience. Stereo speakers are tuned for landscape use, with enhanced audio performance on the 13-inch version.
Software - The tablet runs iPadOS 26, featuring built-in Apple Intelligence capabilities.
Accessories - Both models remain compatible with existing accessories, including the Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard.
