Apple has launched its latest generation of the iPad mini 2026 in India, after a two-year gap. It introduces a refreshed design, an OLED display, the A20 Pro chip, and IP67-rated dust and water resistance. The new tablet brings several hardware and software improvements, focusing on performance, display quality, and connectivity while retaining its compact form factor.
Design and Display
The new iPad mini measures just 5.4mm thick, making it thinner and lighter than its predecessor. Apple has reduced the bezels by 24%, accommodating a larger 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display while maintaining a compact overall footprint.
The display offers peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits, along with typical full-screen brightness of 600 nits for standard and high-dynamic-range content. It can also dim to as low as 1 nit for comfortable viewing in low-light environments.
Additional display specifications include a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio and support for the P3 wide color gamut. Buyers can choose between a standard glossy screen and an optional nano-texture glass finish designed to reduce glare.
The iPad mini is available in two color options: Midnight and Starlight. Its sealed chassis carries an IP67 rating, providing protection against dust and water immersion within specified limits.
A20 Pro Chip and Internal Architecture
Powering the new iPad mini is Apple's A20 Pro chip, manufactured using a 2nm process. The updated processor architecture brings improvements across CPU performance, graphics rendering, and on-device artificial intelligence.
The CPU features up to six cores and delivers up to 60% better multithreaded performance compared with the previous generation. Its seven-core GPU incorporates dynamic caching, hardware-accelerated mesh shading, and ray tracing, delivering up to 2.7 times faster graphics performance.
For AI workloads, the chip integrates Neural Accelerators into each GPU core alongside a dual 16-core Neural Engine. The 512GB configuration is specified with 32 Neural Engine cores in total, enabling up to 4.5 times faster AI computing performance for supported on-device machine-learning tasks.
Apple has also increased unified memory bandwidth to more than twice that of the previous generation, helping improve responsiveness when handling demanding applications and multitasking workloads.
Audio, Cameras, and Connectivity
The latest iPad mini introduces an Acoustic Display audio system that integrates display-coupled woofers and frame-mounted tweeters within a sealed acoustic cavity. This design aims to deliver improved audio output while preserving the tablet's dust and water resistance.
The front camera has been repositioned to the landscape edge. It is a 12MP Center Stage camera designed to keep users naturally framed during video calls, particularly when the tablet is held horizontally.
At the rear, the device features a 12MP Wide camera supporting 4K video recording at up to 60fps. An Adaptive True Tone flash assists with photography and document scanning.
Connectivity is handled by two Apple-designed components. The N1 chip enables Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity, while the C2 modem powers cellular connectivity on supported models. The modem also supports digital eSIM activation and offers up to 50% faster cellular transmission speeds alongside improved power efficiency.
Software and Accessories
The new iPad mini runs iPadOS 27 and includes Apple Intelligence features, an updated conversational Siri interface with on-screen context awareness, and privacy protections supported by on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute.
The software also introduces windowed multitasking for applications, interface customization through Liquid Glass settings, and support for external displays planned for iPadOS 27.2.
For accessories, the tablet supports both the Apple Pencil (USB-C) and Apple Pencil Pro. The latter offers haptic squeeze gestures, barrel roll sensing, and Find My integration.
Apple is also introducing a redesigned two-panel Smart Folio made from TechWoven fabric. The accessory will be available in Navy Blue and Taupe.

Pre-orders for the new iPad mini will open on Wednesday, October 28, across 36 countries and regions, with retail sales scheduled to begin on Friday, November 6. The tablet will be available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options.
