Apple has launched its latest iPhone in the 17 series, the iPhone 17 in the Global Market, including India, at its latest event, as expected. The new model features a larger 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion technology, bringing up to 120Hz refresh rate to the base variant for the first time. Peak brightness has been boosted to 3000 nits, a 50% improvement over the iPhone 16.
Thanks to ProMotion, the iPhone 17 now supports an Always-On display, allowing users to view the time, widgets, and Live Activities at a glance. The display can intelligently scale down to 1Hz when not in use, ensuring power efficiency.
Apple A19 and Connectivity -
Powering the device is Apple’s new A19 3nm SoC, featuring a 6-core CPU that’s 1.5x faster than the A15 Bionic in the iPhone 13. Its 5-core GPU delivers over twice the performance of the A15. Apple has also introduced the N1 wireless networking chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support, which enhances connectivity for features like AirDrop and Personal Hotspot.
The iPhone 17 will be eSIM-only in select regions, including the U.S., Canada, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and more.
Upgraded Cameras -
On the back, the iPhone 17 sports a dual 48MP setup with a Fusion Main sensor and a 12MP optical-quality 2x Telephoto lens. A major upgrade comes with the new 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera, replacing the 12MP version from the iPhone 16.
The front camera has also been enhanced — the 18MP Center Stage sensor is Apple’s first square front camera, offering a wider field of view and improved resolution. Users can now capture both portrait and landscape shots without rotating the phone. AI-powered Center Stage automatically expands the frame for group photos and adjusts orientation to fit everyone in. The front camera also supports ultra-stabilized 4K HDR video and Dual Capture, enabling simultaneous front and rear recording.
Durability, Battery, and Charging -
The iPhone 17 introduces Ceramic Shield 2 with an Apple-designed coating that offers triple the scratch resistance and reduced glare. Coupled with ProMotion and the A19 chip, the phone delivers up to 30 hours of video playback — eight more than its predecessor. For charging, it supports up to 50% in just 20 minutes using a 40W or higher USB-C power adapter.

Pricing and Availability -
The iPhone 17 will be offered in Black, White, Mist Blue, Sage, and Lavender, with storage options of 256GB and 512GB — meaning there’s no 128GB variant this time. Apple has priced it lower than both the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus in their 256GB configurations.
