Sony is preparing to announce its upcoming smartphone, the Sony Xperia 1 VIII flagship, which has appeared in its first leaked renders, courtesy of @OnLeaks, revealing a largely familiar design. It is expected to feature a 6.5-inch OLED display with symmetrical bezels at the top and bottom.

A noticeable change comes in the form of a redesigned, square-shaped rear camera module. The device is tipped to measure 161.9 × 74.4 × 8.58mm (around 11.37mm including the camera bump), which is close to its predecessor, the Sony Xperia 1 VII. However, the updated camera layout could result in a slightly thicker bump.

Under the hood, the smartphone is likely to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. It is also rumored to feature a triple-camera setup with three 48MP sensors, including an upgraded telephoto lens replacing the older 12MP unit. Sony is expected to retain fan-favorite features such as a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot, catering to long-time Xperia users.

The Xperia 1 VIII is anticipated to debut in mid-May 2026, with availability starting in June. An official launch announcement is likely to arrive in early May.
