Apple officially introduced watchOS 27, the next major software update for the Apple Watch, at the WWDC 2026 event. Scheduled for release this fall, the update transforms the smartwatch into a more intelligent and proactive companion through deeper Apple Intelligence integration, expanded health features, and a variety of user experience enhancements.
Siri AI and Apple Intelligence

The highlight of watchOS 27 is the arrival of Siri AI, a significantly upgraded version of Apple's voice assistant powered by Apple Intelligence. The new assistant is designed to support natural conversations, understand context, and deliver more personalized assistance directly from the wrist.
Personal Context Awareness
- Siri AI can access information across a user's Apple ecosystem to provide contextual responses.
- Users can request details such as saved travel information, identification numbers, rental access codes, or appointment details without manually searching through apps.
Expanded Knowledge Capabilities
- Siri AI can retrieve real-time information from online sources.
- Users can ask open-ended questions about topics such as transportation schedules, workout ideas, weather conditions, and more.
Dedicated Siri App
- watchOS 27 introduces a standalone Siri app for the first time.
- The app stores conversation history and synchronizes interactions across Apple devices.
- Users can begin a conversation on an iPhone and continue it seamlessly on their Apple Watch.
Dynamic App Grid
- The traditional app layout has been redesigned with a dynamic grid.
- Apps are automatically prioritized and repositioned based on Siri's contextual recommendations, recent activity, and usage patterns.
Health and Fitness Improvements

Apple continues to expand the Apple Watch's health and fitness capabilities with new workout insights and wellness tracking tools.
Workout Buddy Enhancements
- Independent Functionality: Workout Buddy can now operate entirely from the Apple Watch without requiring a connected iPhone.
- Advanced Performance Insights: The feature analyzes historical fitness data to provide personalized pace, distance, and duration guidance during workouts.
- Expanded Language Support: Personalized coaching and workout feedback are now available in Spanish.
Improved Indoor Workout Tracking
- watchOS 27 introduces updated motion-tracking algorithms for indoor walking and running workouts.
- The system uses refined wrist-motion analysis to improve distance accuracy when GPS data is unavailable.
Perimenopause and Menopause Tracking
- Cycle Tracking gains additional monitoring capabilities designed to identify patterns associated with perimenopause.
- If irregular trends are detected, the Health app can provide alerts, symptom tracking tools, and educational resources.
System and Usability Enhancements

In addition to AI and health features, watchOS 27 includes several interface improvements focused on convenience and easier interaction.
Single-Tap Gesture Control
- Users can now interact with Smart Stack widgets by tapping their thumb and index finger together once.
- This allows widget selection and expansion while keeping one hand free.
Smarter Smart Stack Suggestions
- Smart Stack becomes more predictive and context-aware.
- Widgets automatically surface relevant information based on real-world situations, such as birthdays, transit information, or parked vehicle locations.
Unified Find My Experience
- Apple has merged Find Devices, Find People, and Find Items into a single Find My app.
- The new interface offers a consolidated map-based experience for locating people, devices, and accessories.
Call Context
- When placing calls to businesses, watchOS can proactively surface relevant information from other apps.
- For example, airline reservation numbers or booking confirmations stored in Mail can appear automatically during a call.
Wallet Pass Creation
- Users can now create custom Wallet passes from standard barcodes and QR codes.
- Cards such as gym memberships, library cards, and loyalty cards can be added and pinned to Smart Stack for quick access.
Compatibility Requirements
Because many Apple Intelligence features rely on advanced on-device processing, watchOS 27 supports a more limited range of devices than previous releases.
The update requires an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 27, including iPhone SE (2nd generation) and newer models.
Supported Apple Watch Models
- Apple Watch SE 3
- Apple Watch Series 9
- Apple Watch Series 10
- Apple Watch Series 11
- Apple Watch Ultra 2
- Apple Watch Ultra 3
Availability
The watchOS 27 developer beta is available now through the Apple Developer Program. A public beta will arrive next month through the Apple Beta Software Program, while the final version is scheduled for release this fall.
Siri AI will launch in beta later this year and requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device configured in a supported language. English will be the first supported language. Siri AI will not initially be available in the European Union on iOS and iPadOS devices.
