Apple is reportedly preparing to introduce a new Mac mini, potentially before its annual iPhone event in September. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who cited people familiar with the company’s plans, the upcoming Mac mini would represent the first major refresh of the compact desktop in nearly two years and is expected to feature a newer-generation Apple silicon processor.
New Mac mini
Apple has reportedly tested the next-generation Mac mini with both M5 and M6-series chips, although the processor selected for the final retail model remains unclear.
Demand for the existing Mac mini has reportedly grown, particularly among users who run artificial intelligence applications directly on their devices. Supply has also been affected by shortages of memory components, with some orders taking several weeks or even months to arrive.
The Mac mini is also expected to play a role in Apple’s efforts to increase manufacturing in the United States. The company has previously announced plans to produce the Mac mini at its facility in Houston. Apple had also assembled the Mac Pro in the US, although that model was discontinued earlier this year.
New iPad mini
Apple is additionally working on an updated iPad mini featuring an OLED display. The upcoming tablet is expected to adopt an iPhone-style OLED panel, replacing the current display technology and bringing the compact iPad closer to Apple’s premium tablet lineup.
According to Gurman, the new iPad mini remains scheduled for a fall launch and is expected to arrive before the end of October.
Other Apple Products in Development
Apple is reportedly developing a wide range of new Mac, wearable and smart-home products, including:
- iMac: A refreshed version with new color choices and an M6-series processor.
- MacBook Pro: A new entry-level model powered by an M6 chip, along with redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch variants featuring OLED displays and touchscreen support.
- Apple Watch: New models with additional fitness-tracking capabilities, including a ceramic case option for the Apple Watch Series 12.
- AirPods: AirPods 5 are reportedly in development as an update to Apple’s entry-level lineup, while camera-equipped AirPods are being developed as a separate product.
- Smart Home: Apple is working on a display-equipped smart-home device with facial recognition, alongside refreshed Apple TV and HomePod mini models.
The company is also exploring AI-focused wearable devices, including smart glasses and a camera-equipped pendant. These products could capture visual information and send it to an iPhone for AI-powered processing.
Expected Launch Timeline
The new Mac mini could reportedly be unveiled within the next few weeks or even days, potentially arriving before Apple’s September iPhone event. Meanwhile, the updated OLED iPad mini is expected to launch before the end of October.
The upcoming Mac mini could also become one of the final major products introduced during Tim Cook’s tenure as Apple CEO, with John Ternus scheduled to take over the position on September 1.
