Xiaomi Mi Max Wifi Issues Fixed

Xiaomi has started rolling out an official OTA update to fix WiFi issues for the Mi Max units sold in India. Over the last couple of weeks several people have reported us that their Mi Max was unable to recognize WiFi networks, and even if it was able to see networks, it wasn't able to connect. The company has finally responded with an OTA fix which has begun rolling out.

You can wait for the OTA update to be available on your phone, but there are a few steps which will get the new OTA update to fix WiFi issues on your Mi Max quickly. This update should only be applied if your Mi Max is suffering from WiFi issues.

Steps to Fix WiFi issues with Mi Max (India)

Method 1:

  • Update the Updater app first over Mobile data (1.3MB)
  • Open the Updater app, press "Check for updates"
  • Download the update and reboot

There is no rooting required and your data will be safe as well. However there is always a word of caution associated with installing updates. So do be careful and follow the steps exactly and keep your phone charged.

Method 2:

  • Manually download the OTA Zip file from here - Download
  • Connect your Mi Max to a PC
  • Copy the downloaded OTA Zip file to the phone
  • Unplug phone from PC
  • Open Tools folder, then Updater app and tap on the three dots menu button
  • Click on Choose update package
  • Browse to the OTA Zip file which was copied earlier
  • Reboot the phone when asked

You can also download the new stable ROM update and flash it via fastboot or recovery, you can check the link in description for that. If you find all of this to be too taxing, head over to the nearest Xiaomi service center and they will install the update for you. Click here to find a service center near you.
