Xiaomi has launched its latest flagship smartphone in the 17 series, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra in India, following its global debut at MWC 2026 last week, as previously promised. The launch also highlights a major evolution in Xiaomi’s partnership with Leica. The collaboration has now moved beyond the earlier “Joint R&D” framework to a newly established “Strategic Co-creation Model.”
Under this upgraded model, both companies work closely from the earliest stages of product development, blending Leica’s century-long optical heritage and design philosophy with Xiaomi’s innovation to redefine the smartphone imaging experience. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra becomes the first device developed under this enhanced partnership.
Design and Display -
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra brings a notable design shift as the first Ultra-series device to feature a flat display. While retaining the overall design identity of the 17 Series, it introduces a more streamlined and linear aesthetic with ultra-slim bezels. Measuring just 8.29mm in thickness, it stands as the slimmest Ultra device Xiaomi has released so far.
Ergonomic improvements include a micro-curved aluminum alloy frame, a reduced camera module diameter, and a repositioned camera housing to offer a more balanced and comfortable grip.
The device sports a 6.9-inch M10 OLED LTPO display with a peak brightness of 3500 nits and a dynamic 1–120Hz refresh rate. It supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Xiaomi’s new HyperRGB technology delivers 2K-level clarity while maintaining lower power consumption than conventional 1.5K panels.
Audio performance is enhanced with upgraded dual stereo speakers featuring AI-based noise reduction for clearer calls and media playback. The smartphone also carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
Imaging System -
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is equipped with a versatile triple-camera setup engineered for diverse shooting scenarios, from sweeping landscapes to detailed street photography. The system comprises a 14mm ultra-wide lens, a 23mm Leica 1-inch ultra dynamic primary camera, and a Leica 200MP 75–100mm optical zoom telephoto lens.

Built around the Light Fusion 1050L sensor, this camera incorporates LOFIC HDR technology. It offers a full well capacity 6.3 times higher than the previous generation, greatly enhancing highlight preservation and shadow detail in high-contrast and backlit scenes.
Leica 200MP Optical Zoom Telephoto -
Designed to overcome common mid-to-long focal length limitations, this camera integrates three precisely aligned lens groups along with a prism system. The second and third lens groups move independently to enable true optical zoom across the 75mm to 100mm equivalent range. It fully utilizes the 1/1.4-inch sensor throughout this zoom span, delivering native 200MP output without digital cropping.
Leica APO Certification -
The telephoto lens adopts Leica’s APO optical design, incorporating three custom glass elements to minimize chromatic aberration at the hardware level. This significantly reduces color fringing and improves sharpness, making the Xiaomi 17 Ultra the first Xiaomi flagship to earn Leica APO certification.
The entire imaging system is built on a Leica UltraPure optical design with a G+P lens group, reducing ghosting and maintaining stability in complex lighting conditions.
Performance, Connectivity, and Battery -
Powering the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform, paired with 16GB of RAM. It features Xiaomi’s 3D Dual-Channel IceLoop cooling system along with a redesigned capillary structure, delivering a 50% improvement in thermal conductivity compared to the previous generation.
The device houses a large 6000mAh battery with support for 90W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. It also supports PPS charging for broader compatibility.

Xiaomi also offers a dedicated Photography Kit Pro for enhanced shooting control. The accessory includes a two-stage shutter button, a dedicated video button, a customizable dial, a zoom lever, and thumb support for improved grip.
It features a versatile filter adapter ring and integrates a larger 2000mAh battery. Connecting via USB Type-C, the grip can double as a power bank and supports 90W wired HyperCharge. The kit is rated IP54 for dust and splash resistance.
