So here's all the news, launches and happenings in the world of Mobile Technology for the week starting November 2nd.
1. Samsung launched its new Budget 4G series in India, with Galaxy On5 and Galaxy On7
Both the Galaxy On5 and On7 are just lower spec'd versions of the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 and have been priced as such a well. The Galaxy On5 retails at Rs. 8990 while the Galaxy On7 is available at Rs. 10,990.
2. Microsoft Surface Pro 4 coming to India in January, while the Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 950 will arrive in December
Microsoft completely missed the memo on Diwali celebrations in India and decided to launch both the Lumia flagships in December instead. The Surface Pro 4 will be the first of the Surface line-up making it to India, and we might see the Surface Pro 3 launch here as well.
3. Micromax launched its flagship Canvas 5 with 3GB RAM
Trying to win a battle in the above Rs. 10,000 price bracket where the Moto G3 and Samsung's J5 and J7 seem to be doing very well, Micromax launched the Canvas 5 with a 1080p display, 3GB RAM, metal frame priced at Rs. 11,999.
4. Motorola launched a more powerful, expensive version of the Moto G3
The Moto G Turbo Edition was launched in Mexico with a 1080p display, Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor with the same camera and IPX7 rating for water-resistance.
5. YouTube got Stereoscopic VR support within the app, which can be viewed using Google Cardboard
YouTube finally added the option to watch stereoscopic VR videos directly from within the app using Google Cardboard or similar VR headsets. In addition to that YouTube also added support for watching any video in a virtual movie theater mode using VR headsets.
6. Gionee expanded its F103 smartphone into a series with more RAM options
You can now get the Gionee F103 in two more RAM variants, with 1GB RAM and 3GB RAM apart from the current 2GB RAM model.
7. Motorola announced its Diwali offers and discounts on its entire line-up in India
Motorola announced Rs. 1000 price cut on the popular Moto G 3rd Generation, alongwith several exchange offers across its line-up.
8. Xiaomi launched its updated Mi Band 1s Fitness Tracker with a heart-rate sensor
Although we had already heard the rumors of an updated Mi Band fitness tracker in the works, Xiaomi finally took the wraps off the Mi Band 1s this week which now comes with a heart-rate sensor and same 30-day battery-life, IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.
9. Gionee S Plus launched in India to take on OnePlus X
Gionee launched a new smartphone dubbed the S Plus to take on the OnePlus X with USB Type-C port, AMOLED display, 3GB RAM and octa-core processor.
