Months after the soak test was completed, and more than a year later, the Moto G4 Play has finally been updated to Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

Launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow onboard in 2016, the Moto G4 Play was confirmed to get Android Nougat update back in October 2016. But the update has finally started rolling out now in January 2018, that too just in Brazil for the moment.

Although the G4 Play has been blessed with Nougat 7.1, most of the other Moto G4 series devices are still running on Android 7.0. There's a bit more bad news in store, this will be last update for the Moto G4 Play as only the Moto G4 Plus and the G5 series are eligible for Oreo updates.

Nevertheless, the new Android update for the G4 Play brings app shortcuts, new emoji, and November 2017 security patch. The OTA update carries the build number NPI26.48-36 and is 644MB in size. At present, there is no word as to when it will roll out globally, but it is expected to be soon.
